A Note About “Teacup” Chihuahuas
The Chihuahua breed has two officially recognized varieties: Long Coat and Smooth Coat. Terms such as “teacup,” “miniature,” “micro,” or “pocket” do not describe separate types of Chihuahuas and are not recognized by the AKC or the Chihuahua Club of America. These informal labels are widely used online, where photos and videos do not provide a reliable sense of a puppy’s true size. Individual size naturally varies, and a litter will sometimes include a few particularly small puppies. This size variation is entirely normal and does not constitute a separate variety of the breed.
